LIFE AT 20 BELOW ZERO

The worst part about being alone is having no choice but to be there.  Therefore, planning is your best friend.  Testing out various strategies and techniques when you actually do have the time and choice is a preventative measure you will value time and again.

Make no mistake about it, we have so little choice in almost everything we do.  The media keeps us focused on what the Man wants us to think.  The family and friends we have keep us centered on daily tasks and responsibilities.  The human body forces us to maintain daily habits and routines by penalizing us with illness when we change.

Practicing methods of avoiding big water usage pays off at -20F.  When the toilet backs up into the tub, rather than draining past the frozen stuff in the drain pipe you quickly learn to adapt.  Then, when the water stops flowing into the house the blue water jugs come out to keep you stocked.  How long between refills becomes the issue and the daily look at the calendar reminds you of the promise of +20F.

Avoid panic.  Stay the course.  Just keep living.  Many ideas pop into the head.  The best idea is to get rid of the headache born of worry.  Pure despair can be a valued commodity.  If you don’t balance out the highs with some lows, danger lurks ahead.

The crunching snow and the dull pain of cold fingers enhance the outdoor movements.  Sunshine is there between the clouds.  The blueness of the sky will lift the spirits, even if it gives away any chance of retaining air temperature near the ground.

Just when you think you have it made, the reality hits you of the overwhelming negative attitude toward the slightest inconveniences of Winter.  This negativity is expressed by people who can’t wait to share with you how awful their lives are at every possible moment.  Even when they are happy, they go out of their way to say how much they suffer.  This is a trick.  This is a mere ploy to suck the very life out of your good mood.  Loneliness has its perks.
